Once a librarian, you will always be a librarian.

This is what happened to Prof. Josephine T. Fernandez.

After forty years of service at Central Philippine University, Jo opted for early retirement "from CPU to be a full time grand mommy to a very beautiful grand daughter “Baby Angel”.

But St. Paul University  Iloilo requested for her services and as a good servant   to the profession, she accepted the call to be the Chief Librarian of this prestigious university. AND SO “NOT RETIRED BUT   I  PUT ON A NEW TIRE”.  WHERE HE LEADS ME I WILL FOLLOW. WHOEVER AND WHENEVER MY SERVICES ARE NEEDED, I AM THERE TO PUT LIBRARIANSHIP  AS A PROFESSION ON TOP OF THE LINE.  THE LORD  KNOWS WHAT IS BEST FOR ME AND FOR ALL OF US. WE HAVE TO KEEP ON SAILING ON BOARD   “MVLibrarianSHIP” " .

Although her first degree is not on library science, but nonetheless she spent most of her professional time in librarianship.

Jo graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce, major in administration, at Central Philippine University, Iloilo City.

But because she was assigned in the library as a working student while she was studying, she developed her desire to become a librarian.

Because of that, she took up a Master of Science in Library Science at the University of San Carlos, Cebu City.

She continued her studies.

At present, she is finishing her academic requirements for her Ph.D in Education (Educational Management) at West Visayas State University, Iloilo City.

For her dedication to the profession, Jo has received several awards. Some of which are as follows:

Loyalty Award Certificate awarded by the Philippine-American Educational Foundation, PAEF  (also known as the Fulbright Commission in the Philippines) for exemplary performance as PAEF volunteer EducationUSA Adviser based at Central Philippine University for 10 years.

Library Science Research Award for her Master’s thesis given by the USC-FAPE Graduate School for Library Science.  This award entitled her to the international publication of the research in  the Master’s Abstract International of the University Microfilms International, Ann  Arbor, USA.

Recipient of the 40 years category Service Award given by Central Philippine University, December 17, 2010.
There she is, still sailing on board  “MVLibrarianSHIP”.
